Silver Fern: proof of evidence that you meet the requirements

Once you succeeded to submit your online Silver Fern application, please, accept my warmest congratulation: YOU did it! This step is a way too far away from your first step on the New Zealand land, however, everything that you will have to arrange now are so called pleasant problems and worries.

Your visa place is only theoretically yours, to make it real you have to send a set of papers to the nearest NZ branch. Don't worry, you will receive a detailed e-mail with instructions next day after you pay for your visa, however, I'm going to cover it hear briefly anyways for those who think one step forward.

Papers which you have to collect and send to the nearest branch (address will be included in the e-mail, London in my case) by the set day (3 months after the day of submitting the application):

1. Your passport
NZ visa will be issued in the passport. Make sure your passport is valid for long enough.

2. A Medical and X Ray Certificate (INZ 1007)
See www.immigration.govt.nz/medicalforms to download a copy of the certificate.

Basically, you can get this certificate from any country and city you like, prices vary a lot.List of available government approved doctors you can see here: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/LinkAdministration/ToolboxLinks/paneldoctors.htm?level=1

Speaking about prices, in St. Petersburg, Russia, you would pay around 500e, in Helsinki, Finland,- 600e.

I chose an Estonian doctor, Dr Jaak Talli, from Tallinn. The reason was not only the price, I paid around 250e for everything including fary tickets, but also because Tallinn is simply a wonderful city with most beautiful old town, delicious food and they also sell a huge variety of stuff for dogs there :)

Anyways, first I made a booking reservation by phone, after that printed a few copies of the form available from immigration.govt.nz, filled in sections that were marked "fill in by yourself" and made enough pictures. I would also recommend to check the form at home carefully to be certain what questions you will be asked.

The rest was very simple, the clinic is situated in the city center of Tallinn and I found it easily. Staff was very kind and helpful, surprisingly, nobody spoke Russian.

First, I had a meeting with the doctor who filled the rest of the forms, checked my heart and lungs. Finally, I was sent to X ray, blood and urine tests.

Whole time spent in the clinic was 1,5 h maximum. Results arrived in Helsinki one week after by post.

3. Police certificate from the country of your citizenship and any other country where you have lived for more than 5 years.

In Finland it was simple as 2x2, I just filled in a form online and received my certificate something like 10 days after together with a 10e bill.

In Russia, however, I had to go twice. First time to submit an application by filling it by hand (!!) and waiting a few hours in a line. Second time, one month later, to collect it.
"Wonderful" Russian service was free of charge. Though the certificate was issued in Russian language only, and I had to send it to the translation agency later.

If somebody is interested in more detailed advice about Medicine and Police certificates part in Saint-Petersburg, please, see my online friend's post/ I don't think anybody could put it in a better way!
http://maxedin.blogspot.fi/2012/04/blog-post.html

4. Evidence of the equivalent of NZ$4200 for maintenance - bank statement on your name

5. IELTS of 6.5 or higher/other accepted proof of your language proficiency, for example, university degree, received completely in English language.

My Finnish degree was not ready yet by the application time, so I had to take an IELTS test in Helsinki. Both Academic and General kinds of test are suitable. General is easier. I took Academic because there were no places any time soon for the other kind.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do reserve your place before hand, I would recommend around 2 months at least. They run out very fast!

I won't go into details about the test as there's a lot of info online. Would just note that, in my opinion, the test is easier than TOEFL content wise which I took a few years ago. However, organization in IELTS is quite complicated, I would definitely recommend to make a few sample tests beforehand no matter how good in English you think you are. You can loose a lot of points simply by not knowing how and when to put your answers.

In my case, I planned to prepare well before hand, but it was a short Finnish summer, you know :) in the end i did a couple of sample tests before the exam, that's all. My result was 8 out of 9.

But mind that I have lived in Finland for quite long, plus I'm generally very good in any kind of tests.
I received my lowest score in writing, by the way :)

It took about 2 weeks to receive results by post.

6. Evidence you meet the qualification requirements, in other words, your diploma.

You should check much before hand that your University is in the list of exceptions, IS recognized in NZ and doesn't need to be examined in NZQA. If not, you have to send it to NZQA which will take all together from 1 month to..
I can't say much about NZQA at the moment, as my Russian diploma was recognized.

Unfortunately, the Finnish one won't be so lucky, I'll get back to you later about the painful process.

Finally, you need o print out your e-mail with instructions, mark that you send all documents and post it to the given address.

Progress of your application can be seen constantly from your cabinet on the immigration web page. They also send you an e-mail when any changes take place. medicine get's to be checked first.

It took me all together about 1 month to confirm my place and issue the visa.  Just to mention, my passport and other documents were "lost" a few times by Finnish or UK post. Next time i would rather send my papers by a secure post, not the normal one :)

This is basically all in brief. I'm struggling with my thesis at the moment, so writing DOES hurt almost physically. May be i add more detailed info later.

Please, feel free to ask questions any time!

Yahoo-ho,

Lena

  12. of all these arrangements, getting Police Clearance Certificate is the worst and time eating task to do.

Here is the thing that I had to do.

First I approached passport/foreigner immigration section in SP/Commissioner of Office. Then they handed over a form and list of documents that I need to submit.

The list is (Take 5 sets of photocopies till item # 8):

    1. A request letter for PCC,
    2. Passport Copy
    3. Address Proof
    4. House Owner Letter (If you stay in rented home)
    5. Letter from two neighbors (If you stay in rented home)
    6. Email confirmation of SF Visa Approval
    7. ID Proof
    8. Authorization letter (If you would not receive it by yourself)
    9. 10 Passport Size photos.
10.1000 Rupees ( + Extra some amount to bribe)

Reach the Passport section with all these documents.

They will make you wait for an hour (They wont do anything even they sit idle)

Then they will give you the form to submit and get sign from your local police station.

They will verify your current house and enquire with your neighbors.

Hand over the set of documents (passport copy, ID proof, and 2 photos).

They will sign something and handover the document to you.

Go back to the SP/Commissioner office and give the same to them.

Then keep your fingers crossed.. You will have it in a week..

I just applied. Will update here anything comes up.

    1. Hi Vijay,

I have applied PCC online at passport india website. I got it in the same day when applied. If you have your address already verified during your passport issue, then the passport office itself will issue PCC directly to you based on that information.

Once you apply you need to take print of your application and you can walk directly b/w 9:30 to 11:30am to passport office without any appointment. Getting appointment is very difficult so i walked directly and got my PCC in an hour.

    1. NZQA requires original documents for all qualifications gained in all
countries, and for all your work experiences. This includes:
      · Certificate of completion of final year at general or junior secondary
      level;
      · Degrees and diplomas, or other award certificates from tertiary
institutions, trade schools, technical colleges or specialised senior
      secondary schools;
      · Transcripts of results, mark sheets or academic records for degrees,
      diplomas or other award certificates;
      · Evidence of vocational or trades training (apprenticeship contracts,
      completion certificates and trade tests, if applicable);
      · Employment records or employer references describing your work
      experience; and/or
      · Current practising certificate, registration or licence as appropriate.
If the institution where you studied does not provide transcripts or mark
sheets, you will need to provide the equivalent information. This may be an
index book, a diploma supplement or an official curriculum. If none of these
documents are issued, NZQA requires an original letter or other evidence
from the institution showing your course content.
NZQA needs evidence of more than just your highest qualification. If, for
example, you have a master’s degree, NZQA needs to see your bachelor’s
degree and transcripts as well. NZQA needs this so that it can see the
progression and content of your tertiary education.
NZQA may also require a certified copy of the official syllabus/curriculum for
the course of study and / or training completed.
Do not send certificates from informal courses or in-service education, as
NZQA is unable to assess these qualifications. In order to be assessable a
formal qualification course must have a duration of at least 400 hours.
Do not send certified copies of your original documents.

    2. Hie Sanjeev, First of all if your Bachelors Degree is Listed under Exemptions List, then for the Silver fern job Search visa you don't need to get ur masters degree Assessed compulsorily , but after Entering New zealand for any other purpose like employment or even to apply PR if you want to claim points on the basis of your Masters degree, then that point of time they may ask the same to be evaluated by NZQA.

So in my opinion its always better to get all your qualifications assessed which can be a great help for getting job and also for PR once we get in to New zealand.

You might submit it at Chennai itself along with the DD . The Chennai Office will send to NZ Immigration for processing. Moreover, if you like you might call TT Services Chennai Office before going there physically to submit.

    Hope this is helpful .

    Best Regards

I have a question about the Visa processing.
Do i need to attend any interview after sending the required documents to TT Services?

    Please help me with this.

  34. Hi Vijay..

There should not be any interview in normal cases. If they need more details to verify, then probably you will get a call from them. All the best fro your IQA Process.

Hi Vignesh - I agree with Jyothi's comment and hope thats helpful to you.!! Thanks Jyothi..

    3. Vijay, Normally It will depend on the CO. If he sees no issues in documents it will take take 25 working days to issue the visa. Few people already got visa (from Egypt Branch..) YOu will be having a interview call with CO. Then you will get that blue sticker on your Passport/. :-)

  36. Hi All,

I have SFJV and currently I am trying to collect all the required documents.
I also got my qualification assessed by NZQA and have the report with me.
They have compared my degree to Level 7.

There is 1 last requirement. It says "evidence that you hold, or you can obtain, NZ registration...."
Can anyone please tell me something about this?
Which document should we provide for this?

This is the last thing pending on my part.

    Thanks,
    Kushal

    1. Congrats on your IQA. Sorry can't answer your question about the registration. I think that depends on your degree - e.g. if you have a medical degree, you may need to obtain NZ registration to work as a doctor and you would need to prove you can do this e.g. stating you can take the relevant exams there or something.

I have a question about the IQA - do you need to give details of work experience? What if I have a degree but no work experience?

Also, the SFJV need evidence of English language proficiency. My whole education was in English - since primary school. What kind of document should I provide to support this?

      Thanks.

      Delete
    2. Hi Kushal, The last section is applicable only if your professional is catering, plumber, carpenter.

FJ- There is no need to provide your work experience. Its the supplementary document which shows that you can get job our your profession has demand in NZ. For English proficiency, Provide your higher secondary, Degree certificate which shows that the medium of instruction is English. I hope I answered your questions

      Thanks

    1. Hi Aniket,

29th July is the date immigration NZ will take a decision on your application based on the documentation they have. Once you courier your documents to the required branch they are then forwarded to the assigned consultant. So to be safe Its better to send them your application asap. Atleast a week before the end date.

    5. Hello

If the Notification status is updated then u can see the Courier Ticket No. below with date couriered. I got my NZQA done in 5 working days in fast track process and within 11 days of time i rcvd my documents and they are pretty fast.

I am not sure about the English Language evidence of education medium of instruction but the visa officer might ask u for IELTS scores. However, i submitted both (IELTS with 6.5 & Education medium of instruction). IELTS is not required for only those countries with mother tongue English(I Guess) because i checked with NZ Embassy before attempting IELTS.

I did submitted my documents to TT Services, Hyderabad on 15/07/2013 with Rs.860 DD(Issued by any Nationalized Bank) . Just waiting for thr decision. All documents sent as listed in the Mail. Lets hope for the good.

Hope the above first 2 lines will help to some extent. Please keep posted the status of your application.

      Thanks

It is not mandatory that you submit your work experience docs. Your degree should be more than sufficient.

But if it is convenient for you there is no harm in sending it.You can send them either your offer letter or pay slips or bank statement showing your salary.

      Hope this helps

    2. Hey Guys!!!

I submitted my Docs on 23rd May and Got Call from VISA Officer on 5th June.

It was kinda Interview call for 30-35 Mins!!! She asked everything about Qualifications, Eligibility of SFV, My Experience(Exact Work Details, Technology Companies, Domain, Salary), Current Job and bank Funds. Then What are my Plans, What are the Chances to get a Job, Referencesin NZ & their Details(name, designation, company). What If I dont get a Job!! What I know about NZ and Questions like this.

I was worried about my Maters IQA as I din't go for it. VISA Officer will assess u on ur Communication Skills while interacting with U. At last she looked positive and she said its all fine.

What I have heard from ppl over there, that we get only 1 Call and in that only they will ask us to go for IELTS/NZQA or anything else. So, as of now I am positive about it and Just waiting for Response!!!

      Hope it helps Someone!!!

  46. Hi All,

They can certainly give you a call. I received one myself.

Well, the questions were pretty basic.

    Tell me about your family

Why did you apply for Silver Fern?

How did you come to know about silver fern?

Do you know the rules of Silver Fern?

How long will it take you to get a job once you get there ?

What is the salary that you will be expecting?

What kind of role would you be looking for ?

    What do you do currently?

And later on they asked me to send them a few more docs.

So please be prepared and all the best if you get a call.

    Regards

You will have to submit attested copies or original.

Also include a cover letter explaining them point by point the documents you are submitting based on the confirmation email.

For example - Under point evidence you meet english language requirement - Tell them that English was the only medium of instruction for your taught degree.

This year it was a very tough competition. i got the place around 11.45 am newzealand time. i almost gave up reading that the places are taken off within few minutes. But i thought that it will be worth trying until the website say that all the places are taken off. Is there anyone from last year that can confirm that the INZ will definetely make the interview call or its's just luck all again?
